Gedicht

A memoir to Aristophanes

Amida Wikus 5. Oktober 2026

In Plato’s Symposium, Aristophanes states that humans were made with two faces, four legs, four arms, but when the gods became scared, they cut them in half – humans, not moving, not eating for days at a time. And so, our curse in life is to find our other half, ripped from our bodies, and until then, we are nothing else than an empty, unfulfilled shell. Soulmates, something we spend a lifetime trying to find. If they even exist, how many of us get lucky, and for how many of us is death the first person to finally understand – understand our sorrows, our fears, our hearts? How many of us die without ever being looked at and felt, our energy, our souls being touched? Sometimes, conversation is not enough; sometimes, we want our minds to connect, functioning as one, without having to explain every single thought.

Souls connecting, knowing every single dark, depraved corner of one’s heart, because in reality, it has always been one. One heart, one soul.
